(L-R) MDFR’s Fire Chief Dave Downey, Station 2 Captain Bill Gustin, Mayor Gimenez, and District 2 Commissioner Jean Monestime celebrate the station’s grand opening with a proclamation presentation and the “push-in” of Aerial 2.

The 12,038-square-foot triple bay facility includes a training tower, classroom, and is our newest "green" station joining stations 40 and 16. Capable of housing up to 12 firefighters, the new facility helps to decrease response time while increasing services in the community. The opening of this station enables Miami-Dade County to continue to provide for the health, safety and welfare of the residents of Liberty City and its surround areas.

At the event, Captain Bill Gustin was also honored for his 35 years of service with MDFR; having served the last 25 years as the Captain of Station 2. Captain Gustin was presented with a plaque and a proclamation from Mayor Carlos Gimenez.

MDFR started another tradition with the opening of Station 2, the truck push. In the 1800’s when a new station was built members of the community and the firefighters ceremoniously pushed the fire engine into the new station for the first time. ”This tradition links the past to the present,” said Fire Chief Dave Downey.
